The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process has nearly doubled in size in the 17 years since its establishment in 1996, expanding from 26 members originally to 51 at present. Not only has the membership increased, but the scope has broadened as well to include dialogue at ministerial, working group, parliamentary and wider civil society levels. Much debate has been generated on where to take ASEM in the future.
These future trajectories are discussed in the paper by Dr Suet Yi LAI, Research Associate, Peking University and Mr LOKE Hoe Yeong, Researcher, EU Centre in Singapore and Singapore Institute of International Affairs.
