ASEF is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Katinka Esser, an active member of the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN).
Katinka participated during the 15th ASEF University programme in Korea in 2009. She was also actively involved in various ASEFUAN initiatives, such as the Model ASEM, Culture Capsule and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Hanoi and Helsinki. Katinka was suffering from breast cancer, which had been in remission until her cancer symptoms returned a few months prior to her passing. She was laid to rest with a memorial last 16 December in Germany.
As Katinka had always been fond of Japan, paper cranes were given to Katinka’s family. In Japan, paper cranes are used to commemorate the young and prematurely passed away.
Katinka’s bravery, positive outlook and passion for life will always be remembered by her ASEF and ASEFUAN family. She will be missed.
