Notable developments in 2016, such as the UK’s referendum to leave the EU, as well as the first year of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, have significant impact on the global economy. It is therefore an interesting period in Asian and European economies for institutional and structural changes. The 13th Asia Europe Economic Forum (AEEF) will take place, 21-22 September, in Beijing, China, to explore these developments.

The conference, hosted by the Chongyang Institute of Finance at Renmin University of China, will explore the theme of “Global Macro-economic Policy Coordination in the New Era”. It will gather high-level participants, including senior policy-makers, renowned academic experts and economists, to discuss key economic issues relevant to Asia and Europe. There will be 7 panel discussions on key topics including the future of the EU and the European economy, the Chinese economy in the “new normal”, financial openness and regulation, trade and investment, policy coordination in the G20 platform, as well as inequality and sustainable growth.

The event will start with closed-door discussions on the aforementioned topics. It will conclude with a session on “China, G20 and Global Economic Governance” open to the public at Renmin University. Keynote speakers for the conference include Mr JIN Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and Mr Yulu CHEN, Deputy Governor of People’s Bank of China.

Ambassador ZHANG Yan, ASEF’s Executive Director, will chair the session on the long-term perspectives of Chinese economy in the coming years and its impacts on the global economy.
