The Angkor Photo Festival (APF) seventh chapter took place in Siem Reap, Cambodia (19-26 November 2011). APF is one of the major platforms for young contemporary photographers in Asia which attracted about 1,000 visitors this year.

ASEF’s arts and culture portal culture360.org and APF started co-producing Visual Perspective in September 2011. This is a series of photographic dialogues between Asian and European photographers who explore similar themes or issues through their body of work. In the latest chapter, photographers Jill Coulon from France and Palani Mohan from India presented a photographic collage on ‘sumo’ in Japan and ‘wrestling’ in India under the theme Traditional Sports.

This year, the photo fest had curated slideshows, photo exhibitions and workshops, including one for the children of Siem Reap. It was open to all for free for broader outreach. It highlighted 70 out of 110 selected emerging photographers from Asia. Said Jessica Lim, the festival coordinator: “Our emphasis now is to continue creating a festival that is open and welcoming, to all to push it as a meeting point for forming life-long friendships and creative partnerships, and also to serve as a platform to highlight Asian photographers”.
