The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the French Regional Delegation for Cooperation with ASEAN conducted a workshop Climate Change for Policy Makers from ASEAN Member Stateson 18–19 June 2014 in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
This 2-day-workshop gathered 20 officials from ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat to contribute to the Asia-Europe dialogue on climate change issues. The exchanges during the workshop assist in preparing for the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) to be held in Peru and France in 2014 and 2015 respectively (COP20 and COP21).
This workshop provided a dialogue platform to the ASEAN countries to work on a common understanding of challenges for ASEAN in relation to the expected outcomes of COPs.
Presentations on the status quo of climate change talks complemented small group work and discussions, as well as a negotiation simulation. The workshop equipped participants with practical information on international and regional processes related to the COPs’ agenda. It also fostered understanding of the importance of regional coalitions in the climate change negotiation process.
The workshop was a joint collaboration between ASEF, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the French Regional Delegation for Cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat.
