Journalists from 17 ASEM countries came together on 7-8 May 2016 in Guangzhou, China, to attend the second ASEF Journalists’ Workshop, one of the special additions to the 8th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable series. Participants discussed the roles and responsibilities of journalists and explored what could be the future opportunities for the media in this digitally connected world.
After the workshop all the participating journalists joined the ASEM Media Dialogue, where Ms Emma FARNE (Italy) and Mr Nivell RAYDA (Indonesia) presented the conclusions and proposals to an audience, which included Government delegates, civil society members and media experts. Among their proposals highlighted were the necessity of creating exchange opportunities and new networks to facilitate collaboration among journalists from Asia and Europe.
The outputs from this second ASEF Journalists’ Workshop and the first one organised in Brussels, Belgium, will be presented to a panel of Editors-in-Chief from leading media outlets in Asia and Europe at the 8th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable on 7-9 July 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It is an official side-event of the 11th ASEM Summit (ASEM11) and the 8th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable series is being organised in view of the ASEM 20th Anniversary in 2016.
