Steven ENGELSMAN has been recently appointed as the Director of the Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna, Austria. On this occasion he was interviewed and featured on the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) website.
In this two-minute video interview Mr ENGELSMAN explains the reason behind the re-branding of the 200-year old museum, which was formerly known as the Museum of Ethnology.
“The most important aspect in the re-branding is that ethnology is a term that we no longer want to use (…) The whole mind set of ethnology is out of date (…) This museum will be a museum where the world meets Vienna and Vienna meets the world (…) and it will celebrate cultural diversity by all means possible.”
Weltmuseum Wien museum is a member of ASEMUS and will host the 6th ASEMUS General Conference in 2014.
