The 6th Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) General Conference will be hosted by the Weltmuseum Wien on 24-27 September 2014 in Vienna, Austria.
The conference is expected to attract over 100 museum professionals from Asia and Europe. It will focus on the theme Exploring Borders. The work of museums very often involves being confronted by “borders” of various natures, national, political, ethical or moral. The museum as an international meeting place needs to accept and respect certain limits, while at the same time to demonstrate the courage to go beyond its own borders. These issues will be explored in depth at the conference through panels, workshops and visits.
The host, Weltmuseum Wien, which boasts of a collection of over 200,000 ethnographic objects and is currently undergoing extensive renovation, will present its new museum concept at the conference.
