Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights at the International Symposium on “Deprivation of Liberty of Children in The Justice System: Towards a Global Research Agenda”
(13 April 2018, Leiden, The Netherlands)

The Informal Asia-Europe Meeting Human Rights Seminar (ASEMHRS) was established following the 1st ASEM Foreign Ministers Meeting (ASEM FMM1) in 1997. Over the years, the Seminar series, has been successful in promoting mutual understanding and co-operation between Europe and Asia within a political dialogue, particularly on human rights issues. The Seminar series has also opened up a space that encourages an open and non-confrontational debate between representatives of civil society organisations and officials from all ASEM Partners on human rights.

Representative of the Co-organisers of the Seminar series, including Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (nominated by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Ms Valerie WAGNER, Diplomat, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, spoke about the Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights at the International Symposium on “Deprivation of Liberty of Children in The Justice System: Towards a Global Research Agenda”. She addressed a global audience about the achievements and progress of the conversations on human rights, which have positively contributed in people-to-people exchange between Asia & Europe, and the discourse on Human Rights in the two regions.

The International Symposium that focused on Children’s Rights in the Justice System assembled global experts and scholars in the know-how of the present-day status of children’s rights. The participants of the training component of the 17th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights were also in attendance at the International Symposium on 13 April 2018 in Leiden, The Netherlands.
