How can we harness digital technology to improve our urban environment?
This is the focus of the ASEFSU23 publication on ‘Sustainable Urbanisation and Digital Innovations: Perspectives from ASEM Youth’, an outcome of the 23rd ASEF Summer University (ASEFSU23) on Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future.
The publication is a unique compilation of 74 selected essays by the ASEFSU23 participants on the urban challenges they face in their cities & communities and how digital innovations could be harnessed to tackle these challenges. Their essays highlight a diversity of innovative solutions, ranging from mobile applications for poverty prevention to smart waste management systems and inclusive transportation systems for people with disabilities. The digital solutions imagined by these young Asians & Europeans can help envision and shape the liveable cities of tomorrow.
The publication also features an analysis of the views of 600+ young people from ASEM countries on sustainable urbanisation in their communities, including their vision of a liveable city and perceived opportunities to contribute to their city planning & management.
The publication is a useful reference for urban experts, policymakers, academics, and anyone interested in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) across Asia and Europe.
