The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in partnership with the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) and Weltmuseum Wien is organising the 6th ASEMUS General Conference on 24-27 September 2014, in Vienna, Austria. The theme of the conference is “Exploring Borders”.
The event welcomes papers to explore current practice and future prospects for cooperation between Asian and European Museums. Curators, educators and conservators are invited to present topics, which address issues based on their practical experience within the context of Asia-Europe museum cooperation.
On this occasion, ASEF will host a special panel “The Post-Colonial Museum: Vision and Trends in Asia and Europe” on 26 September 2014. The panel will address trends, good practices and challenges in museum practice that navigate ‘borders’ of various sorts, be it national boundaries or disciplinary limitations with a focus on Asian and European museums. Professor Amareswar GALLA, Executive Director of the International Institute for the Inclusive Museum in Denmark and Professor Hong-Bin KANG, Director of the History Museum of Seoul in Korea are among the keynote speakers of this panel.
As patron of the ASEMUS Network since its inception in 2000, ASEF will attend the ASEMUS Executive Committee Meeting, to be held on 25 September alongside the General Conference.
