The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) through its programme Creative Encounters: 3rd Edition is facilitating Equilibrium, a 5-weeks artists’ residency in Partapur Rajasthan, India. These have taken place in 2 phases – Phase 1: 1 September-6 October 2014; Phase 2: 15 October-19 November 2014. 5 artists from Asia and Europe have been shortlisted for each phase.
Equilibrium is an international cultural initiative that builds creative contexts in villages and towns in India. Currently located in Partapur, the main aim of this project is to provide a platform for artists from Asia and Europe to enter into a dialogue with local communities via members of women’s self-help-groups in and around Partapur.
In the course of the residency, the artists have conducted workshops with local women self-help groups as well as young students from various educational institutes and communities. These workshops were organised keeping in mind the creative possibilities of everyday objects. An illustration and essay competition was also conducted by Equilibrium at government schools located in remote areas to encourage art and cultural participation.
EQUILIBRIUM is a project of Beneshwer Lok Vikas Sansthan, Sandarbh (India) and Walpodenakademie (Germany).
