ASEF has been invited to participate in the EU-Singapore Dialogue 2021 on the topic “Strengthening Multilateralism: Opportunities for EU-Singapore Cooperation,” which will be held on 11-12 May 2021. The goal of this two-day event is to explore the challenges and opportunities for cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Singapore to strengthen multilateralism.
Mr Lawrence ANDERSON, ASEF’s Director for Communications, spoke on the first panel of Day 1 on “Understanding Multilateralism and opportunities for EU, Singapore and ASEAN collaboration” on 11 May where he highlighted that reforms of institutions and processes are necessary, but they must be accompanied by the “Three Prerequisites to Peace”. First, big & medium powers must undertake a mindset change. Second, all states need to build trust & confidence. Third, we must all work in multiple platforms, and in concert with each other.
His speech and presentation are below:
The Dialogue is co-organised by the EU Embassy in Singapore, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore (ISEAS), Institut Français des Relations Internationales (IFRI), and Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP).
