From 3 – 6 April 2025, ASEF attended the Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) in Ancona, Italy.
The Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) is the largest student-led conference in Europe, where the Erasmus Generation meets to learn and discuss the future of mobility in Europe and beyond. It involves local, national, and European institutions, Erasmus+ alumni, and student representatives from all over the world. EGM serves as a platform to showcase ESN’s impact and identity to external audiences and local communities. It empowers young people by providing a space for their voices to be heard and actively contributes to the enhancement of student mobility across the continent and beyond. The fourth edition of the Erasmus Generation Meeting, focuses on Empowering Youth as the Changemakers of Society.
ASEF was invited to facilitate two workshops:
- Beyond Borders: Strengthening EU-Asia Collaborations
This session explored EU-Asia collaborations in higher education. Through interactive group activities, participants uncovered how cultural diversity fuels innovation, strengthens mobility programmes, and enhances academic partnerships. Whether seeking to attract more Asian students to Erasmus programs or expand European student mobility to Asia, this session equipped participants with knowledge and actionable strategies to bridge cultures and create sustainable collaborations.
- Cracking the Code: Mastering Intercultural Communication in Student Mobility
Student mobility is about more than just traveling—it’s about making meaningful connections across cultures. However, navigating unspoken rules, subtle cues, and cultural nuances can be challenging. This session provided participants with the ultimate toolkit for mastering intercultural communication. Through real-life case studies and hands-on exercises, they learnt how to transform cultural differences from obstacles into opportunities.
The workshops were facilitated by Ms Freya CHOW-PAUL, ASEF’s Youth Project Lead, and Ms Hazal SATKIN, ESN’s Liaison Officer for Asia, and combined were joined by over 85 participants – students and Higher Education stakeholders, who passionately engaged in the topics – embracing ideation and learning opportunities.
Throughout the EGM, ASEF took the opportunity to strengthen the partnership with Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and meet with relevant stakeholders from the Higher Education & Student Mobility Sector. As well as promote upcoming mobility opportunities such as the 6th ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS6) and our work in the field of Higher Education & Mobility.
The EGM was organised by Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Ancona Section with institutional sponsors: Municipality of Ancona, European Commision, National Institute for Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research of Italy (INDIRE), Ministry of Education, Universities and Research of Italy (MER), Marche Polytechnic University (UNIVPM)
