ASEF’s Deputy Executive Director, Amb Leo FABER, was invited to speak at the first townhall of the Student Thinktank on Europe-Asia Relations (STEAR) on 24 April. Amb FABER delivered a keynote on “(Inter)regionalism in Asia-Europe: the Role of Youth in International Cooperation” and joined the subsequent panel on what young people can do to make their voices heard in decision-making processes relating to Europe-Asia Relations. The event was attended by STEAR Members and young people across Asia & Europe.
Amb FABER commended all the Asian and European young leaders of STEARS for the vision, the leadership and the dedication for the event and highlighted that “youth-driven and youth-focused platforms could be a chance to “revamp” multilateralism: a form of multilateralism which truly aims for a future oriented (inter) regional cooperation; one which is led by the values of sustainable development; not influenced by historic animosities or geopolitical preferences or constraints; or a multilateralism that exists only as a statement or commitments on paper.”
