Warm greetings to you all!
I am delighted to share this important occasion of the 25th ASEF Day with you. On 15 February 1997, 26 founding members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) decided in Singapore to establish the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) based on the Dublin Principles.
Now, ASEF’s membership has more than doubled to 53 Partners across Asia and Europe.
By creating an ecosystem of dialogues, ASEF provides a platform to link civil societies and Governments as the sole permanent institution in the ASEM process.
Over 20,000 Asians and Europeans have participated in activities organised by ASEF, led by the value of mutual respect, equality, sustainability, and diversity.
ASEF marks this milestone at an unprecedented time of a global epidemic. COVID-19, however, has not stopped ASEF from its role in bringing Asia and Europe together. We have quickly innovated in finding new ways to bring stakeholders together at a time when travel and face-to-face meetings became impossible.
At its Silver Jubilee, ASEF renews its commitment to the dialogue and the cooperation between Asians and Europeans for the connectivity, multilateralism, and post-pandemic recovery.
Dear Friends, may I invite you to join us in shaping the way forward for ASEF.
