In December 2015, 196 nations voted to adopt the Paris Agreement, setting out a global action plan to avoid dangerous effects of climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C.
The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) will be supporting the follow-up of this process by organising a workshop on climate change for policy-makers and negotiators from ASEAN Member States. This workshop, entitled “Post-Paris Workshop: ASEAN Member States in Meeting the Global Targets”, will be held on 1-2 June 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is organised in conjunction with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (Germany).
Each ASEAN Member State will nominate 2 representatives to participate in this workshop. Representatives will receive updates on the outcomes and implications of COP21 and the Bonn Climate Change Conference, focusing on the (Intended) Nationally Determined Contributions and climate finance. This workshop ultimately aims to prepare participants for COP22 in Marrakesh, Morocco, and will be followed by a consultation workshop on the drafting of the Post-2015 ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC) Action Plan.
During the workshop, ASEF will also share an updated version of its Handbook for ASEAN Member States’ Government Officials on Climate Change prepared with the Energy Studies Institute (Singapore).
