During pandemics or any public health emergency, the air passenger transport system is quickly affected. Extensive air travel in the world today has raised dramatically the chances of spreading infectious diseases. In mitigation, a robust pandemic preparedness plan is essential for this sector.
To address this, ASEF will organise a workshop Preparedness for Pandemics and Public Health Emergencies in the Passenger Air Transport Sector in Budapest, Hungary (15-16 December 2011).
ASEF-ASAP (Accurate Scenarios Active Preparedness) Scenarios for pandemic preparedness will be used as a tool during this workshop. These scenarios cover a range of possibilities to prepare for future pandemics and public health emergencies in Asia and Europe.
With the help of these scenarios, the Budapest workshop will map challenges in the existing passenger air transport sector pandemic preparedness plan. It will also assess these challenges situating them in different future settings to develop preparedness strategies. The expected outcome of the workshop will be a set of recommendations for improving the current preparedness strategies.
Participants of this workshop include experts from major airline companies, airport hubs, government institutions, and international agencies in health and aviation sectors.
