8th ASEF Journalists’ Colloquium

| The Colloquium discussed key topics related to reporting on religion with a special focus on education and professional training. Participants reflected on terminology commonly used in media, the opportunities for journalists and religious leaders to learn from each other, existing toolkits and resources. Their recommendations were channelled to the 6th ASEM Interfaith Dialogue and incorporated in the Madrid Statement on ASEM Interfaith Dialogue. The 8th ASEF Journalists’ Colloquium was held on 5-6 April 2010 in Madrid, Spain. The meeting was organised in partnership with Casa Asia (Spain) and with support of Paramadina University (Indonesia). | |

16th ASEF University:

| The 16th ASEF University promoted discussion on how barriers to quality healthcare can be reduced and raising awareness on public health issues. It also encouraged young people to play an active role in promoting better health while emphasising the Asian and European perspectives on key global health challenges that often require international cooperation. Jointly organised by ASEF and the Medical University of Lodz (UMED), the University took place on 29 June – 12 July in Lodz, Poland.

Asia-Europe Environment Forum 2010 Conference“A Green Future: Asia and Europe Growing Sustainably” |
| The Conference showcased twelve different workshops focusing on the green economy, biodiversity, and environmental governance. Jointly hosted by ASEF and Hanns Seidel Foundation, it gathered on 1-3 September 2010 in Munich, Germany, around 150 international experts representing both government and civil society organisations from ASEM countries. The recommendations from ENVforum 2010 Conference have been disseminated widely to policy makers at various relevant international fora, including the ASEM8 Summit in Brussels. | |

10th ASEMUS General Conference and ASEMUS 10th Anniversary |
| The Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) celebrated its 10th anniversary at its 2010 General Conference at the musée du quai Branly in Paris, France. Over 80 museum representatives from Asia and Europe met from 8 to 10 September to assess the outcomes of the first decade of collaboration and to discuss new common strategies for the future. With ASEM enlargement to include Australia, New Zealand and Russia in October 2010, the network now extends its outreach to a total of 46 countries across Asia and Europe. Representatives of museums from Russia and Australia were also present at this event. Special guests included former French President Jacques Chirac, who delivered his keynote speech at the Conference. | |

4th Connecting Civil Societies of Asia and Europe Conference“Changing Challenges, New Ideas” |
| An official side-event of the ASEM8 Summit in Brussels 2010, the Conference comprised seven thematic Workshops and an Editors’ Roundtable. The unconventional mix of participants included leading government and non-government representatives working in the following areas: education, public health, research and think tanks, governance, urban planning, the arts and the media. Conference participants discussed and studied a number of specific and difficult issues, including regional conflict management; regional integration; the financing of higher education; challenges in lifelong learning policies; the role of youths in promoting public health; the right to information for environmental protection, development and anti-corrupt practices; and the role of arts in globalized urban contexts. The Conference took place on 1-3 October 2010 in Brussels, Belgium. It concluded with eight points of action for ASEM on how to enhance Asia-Europe relations. The recommendations have been channelled to the Leaders attending the ASEM8. |
