The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) is organizing the 5th CLMV Regional Conference in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR on 26-27 March 2019, hosted by the Ministry of Planning of Lao PDR. Main focus of the event is the implementation of SDG12 and its challenges in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Viet Nam and the Philippines.
Prior to the event, the ENVforum has conducted a comprehensive study on the implementation progress of SDG 12 in Lao PDR. Countries, such as Lao PDR, are experiencing an increase in purchasing power which in turn has implications for the industrial sector and other branches of the economy, triggering changes in consumption and production patterns. It is important to ensure that these corresponding shifts take place in line with the targets of SDG 12. This includes the need to decouple economic growth and environmental degradation through the increase of resource efficiency in the production, distribution, and use of products, which is vital not only to the achievement of SDG 12 but the 2030 Agenda as a whole.
This conference is the fifth regional event on the implementation of SDGs that is being jointly carried out by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) and the governments of CLMV countries since 2014, under the umbrella of the ENVforum.
The ENVforum has been hosting conferences since 2003, as a partnership of the Asia-Europe Foundation, Hanns Seidel Foundation (Viet Nam office, Germany), ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC)(Korea), Government of Sweden through the Regional Asia Environment Regional Asia Environment Conference Support Programme administered by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)(Sweden), and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)(Japan).
