On Tuesday, 4 February 2020, the Steering Committee of the Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights Series met at the ASEF premises in Singapore. The biannual meeting sought to clarify and discuss the preparations for the 20th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights (ASEMHRS20). Besides the representatives of the Steering Committee of the Seminar series, the meeting hosted 2 researchers from the ASEM Global Ageing Centre (AGAC), Ms Youngmi LEE and Ms Sansae CHO from the Republic of Korea.

The Committee confirmed that the 20th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights will take place from 12 to 14 October 2020 in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, the capital of the Shilla kingdom from the 1st until the 10th century CE.

With the numbers of older persons increasing across all ASEM Partners while remaining largely invisible in the human rights system, the ASEMHRS20 will be held under the theme of “Human Rights of Older Persons”. The Seminar will provide a forum for discussion among all relevant stakeholders, including government officials from ASEM Partners, academic experts, and civil society representatives, to jointly seek and devise measures to promote and protect human rights of older persons, as well as to strengthen mutual cooperation and partnerships.

ASEF would like to thank the ASEM Global Ageing Centre (AGAC) for their close collaboration and their eagerness to co-organise the 20th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights. We are looking forward to organising the upcoming project with you.
