The workshop on the Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Youth Organisations in Asia and Europe was held from 16th-20th April, 2002 in Shah Alam, Malaysia, under the theme `Bridging the Digital Divide Between Youth in Asia and Europe’. More than one hundred participants from youth organisations in Asia and Europe attended this three-day workshop.
The workshop consisted of expert presentations by practitioners working in the field of ICT. Hands-on workshops on topics such as portal and content development, virtual and physical centres, ICT partnership programmes and technopreneurship were conducted by practitioners from Malaysia’s National Information Technology Council (NITC). The event concluded with new Asia-Europe partnerships embarking on IT initiatives at the end of the forum.
The event was co-organised with the Asian Youth Council, and enjoyed the strong support from the Malaysia and Selangor Youth Councils, the Malaysian Ministry for Youth and Sports, the Selangor State Government, and the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, and the NITC. The NITC also took the opportunity to launch its KAYNET initiative, a web-based hub aiming to strengthen ties between youth from different countries.
