ASEF Public Health Network (PHN) will launch its first training initiative on Risk Communications for Public Health Emergencies. Co-organised with the General Department of Preventive Medecine, Ministry of Health Viet Nam (GDPM – MoH), this training is designed for senior government representatives anticipated to serve as Public Information Officer within their countries’ Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs).

The training aims to cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the key principles of crisis and emergency risk communication (CERC)
  • Engaging partners and stakeholders for effective communication during a public health emergency.
  • Developing an emergency risk communication plan.
  • Identifying appropriate communication channels based on target audience needs.
  • Understanding the role and working with media and social media.
  • Discussing the role of the Joint Information Center (JIC) in coordinating communication during a public health emergency.
  • Explaining how JIC teams function within the IMS (Incident Management System) Organizational tructure.
  • Identifying JIC target audiences and communication channels based on target audience needs.

Risk Communications is one of the eight core functions of the International Health Regulations (IHR), which all World Health Organization (WHO) Member States are required to comply with. Increased understanding and promotion of Risk Communications for Public Health Emergencies will contribute to strengthening ASEM Partners’ capacities towards the fulfilment of IHR’s core capacity requirements.
