OVERVIEW
The East meets West Film Forum And Festival presented an opportunity for young Mongolian filmmakers to network internationally, learn more about their craft, enhance their skills and collaborate with other Asian and European film makers on joint productions and distribution.
The event consisted of:
– Public screenings of feature films by participating filmmakers, followed by a discussion and meeting with the filmmakers.
– Public screenings of documentary films from Asia and Europe with an environmental or social theme, followed by a discussion involving relevant stakeholders, artists, NGO activists, and the general public .
– Meetings between young Mongolian filmmakers and established Mongolian and international filmmakers, cinematographers, film critics, producers and festival directors. This allowed emerging filmmakers to get advice on their first feature and documentary projects. A team of established Mongolian filmmakers and film critics selected 10 of the best local projects to be highlighted in these sessions.
– A day-long forum on the theme of “East Meets West,” with international and Mongolian film professionals highlighting current challenges faced by the film industry in Mongolia, as well as current and future developments. The forum featured one panel discussion and two workshop sessions. Recommendations from the forum will be included in the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture and Science’s Film And Media Development Strategy for 2011-2020.
