OVERVIEW
This first ASEARTS conference was held on the theme of international mobility of artists between Asia and Europe. The conference was organised at a time when the European Union was clearly stepping up its support for culture and the arts.
The participants — mostly from art councils, cultural institutions, funding agencies, and art-related organisations — were given opportunities to network and trade experiences through the ASEARTS Conference, as well as the 2nd World Summit On The Arts And Culture, as both events were held back to back.
The morning session of the ASEARTS Conference featured presentations on cultural policy models and case studies on bilateral and multilateral co-operation. This illustrated the richness of each country’s experience, knowledge, and practice in terms of artist exchange. The afternoon sessions focused on problems and prospects linked to artist mobility and suggestions for actions that could be taken and how the ASEF could build on its existing artist exchange efforts.
