OVERVIEW
For its meeting, the Network’s Advisory Board gathered a select group of academic experts and resource persons to outline a roadmap for the Network’s projects and activities. Participants were asked to develop a strategy towards a growing partnership among Asian and European universities to support the prevention, resolution, and transformation of conflicts in ASEM member countries.
The Advisory Board Meeting was chaired by former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, who had been instrumental in several peace accords including the Aceh peace talks. Other board members represented Asian and European research institutions and universities actively engaged in the Network’s research project on peace processes and conflict resolution education.
The Network also held its Inaugural Conference, where it presented its activities to the participants, along with the outcomes of the Advisory Board’s strategy discussion. It also showcased its five-year collaborative Asian-European comparative research project on peace processes, and introduced the main scholars and resource persons behind the project.
