The ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) AISBL, in partnership with the Institute for Globalization and International Regulation (IGIR) of the Maastricht University (UM) are gearing up to host and provide space for exchanges on the following issues:

  1. Trade and Public Health (8 April 2011)– See photos here
    1. Main topics:
      1. Regulations of “Medicines in Transit”
      2. The New Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) and their Implication on the World Trade Organization (WTO) system.
    2. Subtopics:
      1. Seizure of Medicines in Transit – the WTO Implications
      2. Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) – Background and Purpose
      3. ACTA – Implications: General and For Access to Medicines
  2. Trade and Competition in Global Pharmaceutical Industry (6 May 2011)
    1. Subtopics:
      1. Implication of EU’s new rules on horizontal cooperation on pharmaceutical industry
      2. EU’s framework of competition law on generic and biosimilar drugs

ASEFUAN is composed of graduates of the ASEF University Programme, from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. They are a grouping of young leaders from Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries who share a strong interest in the promotion of inter-cultural relations between Asia and Europe.
