OVERVIEW
This lecture, titled “The Tao of Development: Economic Management and Good Governance in Asia,” was the second in the Asia-Europe Lecture series. Anand Panyarachun, former Prime Minister of Thailand, delivered the lecture at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
Drawing his observations largely from Thailand, Panyarachun suggested how Asia could draw on the painful lessons of the economy crisis to lay the groundwork for long-term development in a balanced, equitable, and sustainable way. He also spoke on the need to overcome institutional inertia so that Asian countries could manage their national resources more efficiently. He felt that with good governance, Asia could reconcile its traditional strengths with the demands of the global economy.
