OVERVIEW
The 5th Asia-Europe Music Camp mixed music, sounds, and cultures by presenting the very first Cracking Bamboo International Percussion Festival.
Cracking Bamboo was attended by up to 40 young musicians, composers, students, and musicologists from Asia and Europe. Percussion instruments took centrestage at this festival as they provided the link between Southeast Asian and European music — many contemporary percussion instruments in European music have their roots in Asian cultures. As a result, the festival offered a platform for modern percussionists from Europe to meet with Southeast Asian players of traditional instruments. Musicians were given the opportunity to share their passion in creating music through 12 days of workshops, master classes, and public performances in Vietnam (Hanoi and Ha Long Bay). These connections provided stimulation for possible future projects and network building.
