OVERVIEW
Conceived by ASEF to tap the potential of the mass media to improve relations between the peoples of Europe and Asia, this first Meeting Of Editors saw the attendance of 43 participants from 23 countries. Among them were editors of leading newspapers, television, radio and new media organisations such as the BBC, Asahi Shimbun, NHK, EDF, and the Jakarta Post.
In the opening session, the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) presented their findings from a study titled “Asia Reporting Europe And Europe Reporting Asia.” The objective of the study was to assess the amount of Asian news reported in European media and vice versa.
In another session, Paul Zimmer, Director-General of Luxembourg Wort from the St. Paul Media Group, and Sabam Siagian, former Chief Editor of the Jakarta Post and former Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, addressed the topic of “The Media As A Catalyst For Change.”
