The Indonesian Visual Art Archive is a non-profit organisation based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Founded as Cemeti Art Foundation in 1995, IVAA focuses on documentation and art archive provision as well as library and interdisciplinary research. Since 2016, IVAA has focused on the expansion of the subject of art, by cataloguing citizen art practices in dealing with city urbanism and even land conflict in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Besides, it also organises exhibitions, public programs, cultural exchange that widens the discussions about art and democracy, politics of archiving and the possibilities of cultural decolonisation.
The research trip they will undergo, Redefinition from the Bottom: Archiving and Decolonising will widen the supported cultural professionals’ perspectives in archiving. It is a program that consists of assessment and research on the diverse archiving methodology within Southeast Asian countries; knowledge and methodology exchange and public presentation.
Through Mobility First!, ASEF is supporting the mobility of 4 artists and cultural professionals to attend Redefinition from the Bottom: Archiving and Decolonising, which will take place from 5 to 29 May 2019 in Yangon, Myanmar & Manila, Philippines.
